Local Park Saved

March 31, 2009 11:34 AM

A popular open space in Hinckley, Brodick Park, has been saved by local Liberal Democrat councillors.

At a meeting of the Borough Council last night, Liberal Democrat councillors supported a motion to keep Brodick Park, Labour and Conservative councillors voted to sell it off.

Cllr David Bill, leader of Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council said "Liberal Democrats took control of the council in 2007 with a clear pledge to save our green spaces. We have kept our promise.

"In March 2007 the last Conservative Council had agreed to sell off Brodick Park to developers. When we took control of the council we discovered the Conservatives had rushed through the contract to sale the land and legally the council was unable to stop the sale.

"Now however that contract has expired and I am delighted that we have kept to our promise and have stopped the sale of the land.

"Brodick Park will now be kept for the people of Hinckley.

"Local Liberal Democrats want to hear what people would like to see on the park. We will be launching a competition for local people who live near the park to tell us what they want on it. Brodick Park has been saved for the people of Hinckley and the people of Hinckley should help decide what is done with it."
