MP should resign

June 19, 2009 11:41 PM

Liberal Democrats in Hinckley and Bosworth have called for disgraced Bosworth MP David Tredinnick to resign immediately following his second breach of House of Commons rules.

Liberal Democrats Councillor Stuart Bray has tabled an emergency motion to Tuesday night's Full Council meeting calling for Mr Tredinnick to go after he became the latest MP to fall foul of the expenses scandal.

Press reports have indicated that Tredinnick has attempted to use public money for an "intimate relationship course" and for software and lessons on use of the "Crucial Astro tools."

This isn't the first time Mr Tredinnick has been embroiled in scandal. He was named in the "cash for questions" affair back in the 1990s where he was suspended from the House of Commons

Cllr Stuart Bray, who is Chairman of Bosworth Liberal Democrats and Deputy Leader of the Council said, "For the second time Mr Tredinnick has brought shame on himself and shame on his constituents. These latest claims are clearly not allowed within the parliamentary rules and in fact are just absurd. Voters in Bosworth have already given Mr Tredinnick a second chance following his earlier misdemeanours and now patience is wearing thin. It is now time he stood down and allowed local people to elect an MP that we can be proud of."

1. Full Text of Cllr Bray's motion:

"This Council notes with great concern the outrageous expenses claims being made by David Tredinnick MP. Claims for an "intimate relationship course" and for software and lessons on use of the "Crucial Astro tools" are clearly against parliamentary rules. This isn't the first time Mr Tredinnick has fallen foul of parliamentary rules. He was previously suspended from the Commons for his involvement in the Cash for Questions scandal during John Mayor's Government in the 1990s.

These repeated abuses of rules reflect badly on his constituents and mean that many voters in Hinckley and Bosworth have lost faith with Mr Tredinnick. This Council therefore calls upon Mr Tredinnick to resign his seat immediately and enable the people of Bosworth to elect someone they can trust to represent them properly in parliament"

Council Officers will decide over the weekend whether Mr Bray's motion will be included on the Agenda for Tuesday's meeting using emergency motion procedures in the Council's standing orders.
