MEP hails good work of Hinckley and Bosworth's Tourism partnership

December 13, 2011 11:24 AM

Local Liberal Democrat MEP for the East Midlands, Bill Newton Dunn visited Hinckley recently to discuss the positive work being done to promote tourism in the Borough.

He met with Steve Wegerif Chairman of the Hinckley and Bosworth Tourism partnership and others including the leader of the borough council Cllr Stuart Bray and the council's Executive member for Tourism Cllr Michael Mullaney.

Bill Newton Dunn MEP said "It was great to hear about all the work being done to promote tourism in Hinckley and Bosworth. Clearly it is a key part of the local economy, employing 1 in 10 of the local workforce, above the national average.

"With key historical sites like the Bosworth battlefield and sports facilities like Mallory Park it is clear that Hinckley and Bosworth is a major area for tourists here in the East Midlands."

Chairman of the Borough's Tourism Partnership Steve Wegerif added; "We were very grateful that Bill took the time to learn even more about the diverse Tourism offering which our Borough has to offer, but we were very concerned to learn from him that due to a recent reduction in UK staffing, UK Tourism is now poorly represented at the European Parliament in Brussels compared to that of many other countries'.
