Hospital campaign goes online

January 17, 2012 1:38 PM

Local councillors in Hinckley are urging residents to sign an online petition against plans to remove two hospital wards from the George Eliot Hospital.

The Arden Primary Care Trust are proposing to remove the Children's and Maternity wards from the George Eliot.

The petition, calling for the wards to be kept at the George Eliot, can be signed at http://campaigns.libdems.org.uk/Georgeeliotwards

Cllr Michael Mullaney, the Liberal Democrats parliamentary spokesman for Bosworth said "I hope as many people as possible sign the petition.

"There is huge support for keeping the wards at George Eliot. If lots of people signing petitions against the plans it will help persuade the PCT to change its mind and keep these wards there."

Cllr David Bill said "About a third of the people who use the George Eliot are from the Hinckley area. With pressure from residents in both Nuneaton and Hinckley we can hopefully stop the plans to remove these wards. If the George Eliot loses these wards it could be the thin end of the wedge.

"We need to keep these wards to protect the long term future of the hospital"
