Regeneration to continue vows Council

5.28.03pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 12th Jun 2007

THE new leadership of the Borough Council has confirmed its broad support for the regeneration of Hinckley Town Centre.

"We are keen to encourage potential investors and want to work with developers on schemes that will help to revitalise the town and ensure its future prosperity," said Council Deputy Leader Stuart Bray.

"However, we want to stress the importance we place on consulting with residents, businesses and other community groups, as well as developers themselves, before making a firm commitment to any specific projects.

"It is because we are listening to the views of local residents that we made it clear at the last meeting of the council that the Mount Road car park and adjacent land in the ownership of the council will not now be developed," he added.

The council voted during its May meeting to retain the Mount Road Car Park in order to provide sufficient off-street parking to support the first phase of town centre regeneration, as well as the grassed area and flower beds in front of the council offices.
