Liberal Democrats celebrate election success in Hinckley and Bosworth

Liberal Democrats in Hinckley and Bosworth are celebrating after the party gained seats in the county council elections.

The Liberal Democrats gained two county council seats from the Conservatives in the Burbage Castle county seat with a big majority of 700. In the Mallory division the Lib Dems missed out by just 38 votes of gaining a third seat from the Conservatives.

Cllr Stuart Bray, newly elected County Councillor and Chairman of Bosworth Liberal Democrats said "People voted Liberal Democrat because they agreed with our strong campaigning on local issues. We want the County Council to do more to tackle speeding and parking problems around Hinckley and Burbage. For years Conservative bosses at County Hall have failed to act on these problems. Now the people have spoken its time for Conservative leaders at the County Council to listen and start to do something about these problems".

Michael Mullaney Liberal Democrat parliamentary spokesman for Bosworth said "These were great results for Hinckley and Bosworth Liberal Democrats. Our gains from the Conservatives show that the so called "Cameron effect" is invisible here.

"Labour were totally wiped out in the election. Labour lost their last County Council seat and their vote collapsed in every seat across Hinckley and Bosworth. It is clear that Bosworth is a two horse race between the Lib Dems and the Conservatives with Labour a distant third, relegated to being a fringe party."
