Save Earl Shilton Age Concern

Local Lib Dem campaigners are dismayed to hear that Earl Shilton’s Age Concern could close in May.

Located on King’s Walk, Age Concern have wanted to get additional users into the building to keep costs down, but Tory-led Earl Shilton Town Council are proposing to massively increase the rent.

Age concern is a charity that provides vital services for elderly people, but now it’s future looks uncertain, with the Town Council announcing on its social media that the centre will close at the end of May.

Earl Shilton campaigner, Patrick Weightman, has launched a petition calling on the Town Council to do all it can to keep the centre open. Patrick said, “Many people are deeply worried that Age Concern could close. We urge the Town Council to come to a deal with Age Concern soon.

Lib Dem Parliamentary Spokesman Michael Mullaney said, “The centre provides vital work for local people. It must be saved.”
