Ming Campbell MP on conference podium

Lib Dem Leader Sir Menzies Campbell

Stuart Bray, Bosworth Liberal Democrats Chairman, has welcomed Ming Campbell MP, Leader of the Lib Dems, proposals for a withdrawal of British troops from Iraq by October 2007.

"At last one party has had the guts to suggest this and I am proud that is the Liberal Democrats" commented Stuart. "Both the Labour and Conservative parties voted for the illegal war in Iraq in the first place - now all they seem to offer is a 'wringing their hands' in response to the crisis. The Lib Dems have put forward constructive proposals for a 'drawdown' of our forces in Iraq".

"While President Bush ignores his own Iraq Study Group's recommendations and instead commits more forces, Tony Blair seems paralysed to act."
