David Bill hands over Council Group Leadership

November 22, 2009 10:05 PM

Statement from Cllr David Bill: "Having taken the advice of doctors, I have come to the conclusion that the time has come to hand over the leadership of the Council and the Liberal Democrat group. It has been a great honour to serve in this capacity and I wish to thank everyone for their support over the years and indeed all the kind wishes I received during my recent illness. I will, of course, continue to play an active role as a member of both the County and Borough Councils and will do my best to continue to serve the people of the area."

Cllr Stuart Bray is the new Leader of the Lib Dem Group on the Council

At a meeting of the Liberal Democrat Group held over the weekend, Cllr Stuart Bray (Lib Dem, Hinckley Castle) was unanimously elected as the new Liberal Democrat Group Leader. Cllr Bray is expected to be confirmed as the new Council Leader, when the Council next meets on December 15th. He has been acting Leader during Cllr Bill's recent absence and will continue as acting Leader until his appointment is confirmed.

Cllr Stuart Bray said, "I am honoured that my Group has chosen me as it's new leader. David will certainly be a hard act to follow. Under his Leadership the Council has moved on leaps and bounds , this has been demonstrated by the "Excellent" rating the Council achieved last year from the Audit Commission. I hope to build on the successes of the past few years and continue to take the Council forward and see through many of the exciting projects that are underway such as the bus station redevelopment and the Hinckley Club for Young People."
