Boundary plans for Hinckley and Bosworth must be voted down -Michael Mullaney

A member of Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council is calling for proposed boundary change plans to be voted down.

The Boundary Commission has published its latest parliamentary boundary proposals. Under their plans they propose to break up the existing Bosworth Parliamentary seat and divide Hinckley from Burbage and divide Barwell from Earl Shilton. Under the plans Hinckley and Barwell would stay in Bosworth but Burbage and Earl Shilton would be moved into the Blaby constituency.

Reacting to the news Cllr Michael Mullaney (Lib Dem Hinckley Trinity) said "These boundary proposals are totally wrong. Hinckley and Burbage should go together as should Barwell and Earl Shilton. Under the Boundary Commission plans Hinckley would be separated from Burbage, and Hinckley would go in with Ashby De La Zouch which is miles away.

"I'm disappointed that the Boundary Commission did not listen to the concerns raised by local people about this. It is particularly disappointing that the Conservative MP for Bosworth, the Leader of the Conservative Council Group and the Chairman of the local Conservative Party all wrote in supporting the Boundary Commission plans, which would see our area carved up with Hinckley divided from Burbage and Barwell divided from Earl Shilton.

"If all the parties had worked together there may have been a chance of keeping the local community ties in the new boundaries, so it is disappointing that the Conservatives backed this carve up of Bosworth,

"These boundary changes will be presented to Parliament to be voted on, I hope MPs will vote down these plans which do not respect local community ties in our area."
