December 9, 2014 1:57 PM

THE WORK of small and medium sized enterprises has been celebrated in Hinckley.

Local Councillors visited a local independent coffee shop to mark Small Business Saturday.

Councillors Michael Mullaney, Mathew Hulbert and Jeff Bannister visited Coffee Rio in the town.

They talked with shop owner Tony Harris about his business and the vitally important role played by small businesses in the local economy.

Mr Harris said, 'This initiative is aimed at supporting smaller independent traders in the run-up to Christmas.

"It has proved to be a great success and takings were up year on year and we had great support from our regular loyal customers and lots of independent business owners from Hinckley.'

'Shopping with independents means you can buy presents for Christmas that you cannot get from anywhere else, which makes for a unique experience.

"Hinckley has some really great businesses and we encourage customers to come into town, buy something different and put money into the local economy at the same time.'

Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidate for Hinckley and Bosworth, Councillor Michael Mullaney, says

'Small businesses are the life blood of the local economy.

We have some fantastic small businesses in Hinckley and Bosworth, coffee shops, bakers, craft shops and many more.

'We have great groups like Love Hinckley and Atkins Networking who do fantastic work promoting local businesses.'

Councillor Mathew Hulbert, Lib Dem Councillor for Barwell, says 'Our small and medium sized businesses add so much to the economy in our Borough and we're delighted to take part in this wonderful initiative to celebrate their contribution.

'In Barwell we have a host of independent local businesses, from barbers, to cafes, newsagents and many more.
