Conservative Budget costs Leicestershire people more and delivers them less

February 22, 2018 9:07 PM

Liberal Democrats have condemned the budget passed by Leicestershire County Councils Conservative bosses yesterday.

Under the Conservative budget plans people will see a rise of 5.99% in Council Tax, the highest council tax rise for 15

At the same time a raft of cuts were passed including proposals to close 24 children's centres in the county,
transport for children with special educational needs will be cut and rural bus services are under threat following

A fully costed Liberal Democrat amendment which would have seen the Children's Centres saved and support for
special educational needs young people's transport kept was voted down by Conservative councillors.

Cllr Michael Mullaney said "People in Leicestershire are getting the worst of both worlds. They will be getting a
huge increase in their Council Tax bills whilst essential local services are cut."

"We are in this situation of sky high tax rises and vital services being slashed because Leicestershire continues to
be the worst funded county by the Conservative government."

"Despite electing Conservative MPs and a Conservative County Council for years, the people of Leicestershire have
been totally failed by them at both a Council and Government level."

"Leicestershire taxpayers will pay for this Conservative failure with big rises in their council tax, whilst some of
the most vulnerable children and young people will pay by having their services cut".
