Hinckley needs more trains!

June 27, 2018 10:51 AM

The train service running through a Leicestershire town has been branded abysmal and an appeal made for more trains to stop in the town.

At present trains from Hinckley to Leicester and Hinckley to Birmingham stop hourly. Hinckley Lib Dem County Councillor Michael Mullaney is pressing for trains to stop more regularly in the town. Michael Mullaney said "Hinckley is a large and growing town. It's abysmal that we only get trains stopping here hourly. If we are to encourage more people to get off the roads and onto public transport the public transport available needs to be far more regular.

"Increasing the trains to two an hour each way would make it more efficient and convenient for people in the Hinckley area to use trains. If the trains also ran later at night it would encourage people who are going out for the evening to Leicester or Birmingham to theatres etc to commute by train.

"At present the government is undertaking a consultation on the future of the Cross Country rail franchise. This is a rare opportunity for people to voice their wishes for more regular trains running through Hinckley. I have completed the survey requesting more regular and later trains for Hinckley. I would urge anyone else who feels the same to also complete the survey. The more people who do the greater impact it will have on those taking decisions about how many trains should stop in our town."

People have until August 30th to complete the survey which can be found at https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/CC-RAIL/ Alternately people can email their views to crosscountry@dft.gov.uk
