Government in chaos means final decision should be put to a people's vote

July 10, 2018 8:11 AM

A leading local Liberal Democrat is calling for the final EU deal to be put to a vote of the people.

Leicestershire Lib Dem County Councillor Michael Mullaney said "The Conservative government is in chaos with minister after minister resigning. There's a complete lack of direction and leadership at the top of government.

"With the government in total disarray and unable to give a clear lead it's plain that the final deal with the EU should be put to the British people to make the final decision.

"Given that both the Conservatives and Labour are totally riven and divided on the issue of the EU, the best answer would be for all parties today to back the Lib Dem motion calling for the final say on the EU deal to be given to the people. This process started with a vote of the public and it should end with one."
