Bosworth Lib Dems unveil new team to run party

November 13, 2020 1:45 PM

Bosworth Liberal Democrats have unveiled the team that will run the local party for the coming year. Bosworth Lib Dems held their Annual General Meeting recently and the well attended meeting held on Zoom elected a new Chairman and team of officers.

The new Chairman is Michael Mullaney who is a Borough and County Councillor and in Hinckley and was Lib Dem parliamentary candidate locally for the last four general elections. The Honorary President is Valerie Bill, Treasurer Robin Webber-Jones, Secretary Ann Pendlebury, VIce Chair Mathew Hulbert, Data Officer Stuart Bray and Membership Secretary David Bill.

On his election Michael Mullaney said "I'm delighted to take on the role of local party Chairman for the next year and thank David Bill the outgoing chairman for all his work in building up the party locally. As a local Liberal Democrat team we will continue to fight for our area to get a fair deal from government and to ensure that government provides the support that local people need to get through these difficult times of the Covid-19 pandemic.

"The local Lib Dem team continues to grow, and in next year's County Council elections we have a strong team of candidates locally campaigning for their local communities. While in the last general election it was disappointing to see the Conservatives win, we did see Bosworth record the highest Lib Dem vote share in the East Midlands for the third general election running. I look forward to working with the local Lib Dem team to continue to campaign for the things that matter to local people here; getting the quality NHS services our area needs, the fair funding that our schools need and the vital improvements needed to local transport infrastructure. We will continue to challenge the Conservative government to deliver these things that are essential for local people's quality of life."

Outgoing Chairman David Bill said "Thank you to everyone for their support. The highlight of my time as Chairman was undoubtedly seeing so many Liberal Democrat Councillors elected to both the Borough and Parish Councils last year. I am only sorry that the subsequent national election did not go in our favour I hope that people will not live to regret the economic challenge now facing the country. This has been a most difficult year having to cope with the pandemic and I fear that the country has now voted itself a series of hurdles it will be difficult to overcome. You have to wonder if the Government really knows what it is doing."
