1,500 people in Hinckley and Bosworth to be taken out of Income Tax
Local Liberal Democrats have welcomed the news that an estimated 1,590 people in Hinckley and Bosworth will stop paying Income Tax altogether. On top of this another 47,000 will pay £200 less a year in Income Tax.
Michael Mullaney, Liberal Democrat parliamentary spokesman for Hinckley and Bosworth, said "At the general election last year, the Liberal Democrats promised to raise the threshold when people start paying Income Tax. I'm delighted that so many local people will be getting an Income Tax cut and that so many low paid workers in Hinckley and Bosworth will be paying no Income Tax at all."
The personal allowance, the amount people can earn before starting to pay Income Tax, will be raised to £7,475. The changes will come into affect in April.
