1,600+ Say no to Hinckley and Burbage phone mast plans
Over 1,600 people in Hinckley and Burbage have declared their opposition to plans to erect a series of phone masts.
The plans that include phone masts in Barwell Lane, Stoke Road and Queens Road in Hinckley. and Rugby Road, Three Pots Road and Hinckley Road in Burbage have provoked massive opposition from local people.
The petitions were collected by local Liberal Democrat councillors and campaigners. Leader of Hinckley and Bosworth Council Stuart Bray said "There is massive opposition to the plans to build these phone masts.
"People accept that, in the 21st century, masts are needed. However, common sense needs to be applied to where they are sited. Phone companies should be siting them away from built up, well populated, areas. They could not have picked more prominent sites and I am pleased that the four masts that are going to Planning Committee tomorrow (Tuesday 29th) are all recommended for refusal.
"According to the government's Stewart Report into mobile phone masts, they should not be sited near schools or elderly people's homes.
"These proposed sites are all in residential areas and some of them are near schools and elderly people's homes. These plans should be rejected."
