Anger over Government Inspector’s decision to allow building on Hinckley nature feature
Campaigners have reacted with fury to the news that a Government Inspector has found in favour of plans to build on a Hinckley nature feature.
Plans by Orbit housing to build 60 houses on the Big Pit, behind Ashby Road in Hinckley had been turned down by Hinckley and Bosworth Borough council.
However Orbit appealed to a Government Inspector who has found in their favour
Local Lib Dem councillor for the area Michael Mullaney, who campaigned against the plans to build on the Big Pit said "This is devastating news, the Big Pit site is a totally wrong place to build houses. Properties in the area experience flooding already and there is real fears that building on the Big Pit, will worsen problems with flooding locally.
"Local residents and Lib Dem councillors have fought these plans for years and we continue to believe this is not a suitable place for development. Many people feel let down that the Tory Borough Council refused to support a public hearing where residents could have explained to the Government Inspector why building on this site is such a bad idea
Michael Mullaney continued "Residents and local Lib Dem councillors will continue to fight the plans to build on the site."
