As petition signatures top 500 RBS told - save Earl Shilton’s NatWest Bank!
Over 500 residents have so far signed a petition to save the NatWest Bank in Earl Shilton, the last Bank in the town.
In response to this the organiser of the petition, Lib Dem parliamentary spokesman for Bosworth, Cllr Michael Mullaney, has written to the owners of the Bank, the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) calling on them to save it.
Michael Mullaney said "So far over 500 local residents have signed the petition to save the NatWest Bank in Earl Shilton.
"With more petitions coming in every day, by the time I hand them in to RBS we will have many more signatures.
"I've written to RBS urging them to re-think their plans and to save the NatWest bank in Earl Shilton.
"It's important for there to be a bank in Earl Shilton. Not everyone uses Internet banking, there are many pensioners and people who can't afford computers and the internet in Earl Shilton and Barwell, who need to bank in person."
Councillor Mathew Hulbert (Lib Dem, Barwell) says 'We are calling on NatWest Bank and their owners RBS to listen to the weight of public opinion, see these hundreds upon hundreds of signatures of local people, and call off this disastrous plan to close the branch.'
'We cannot have a situation where both Barwell and Earl Shilton are left without a bank.
"NatWest must think again!'

Dear Mr McEwan
I am writing to you regarding RBS proposals to close the NatWest bank in Earl Shilton Leicestershire.
The NatWest is the last bank in Earl Shilton.
I would urge you to drop your proposals to close the bank. So far over 500 local people have signed a petition to save the NatWest in Earl Shilton. More petitions are coming in to me every day and the final total will be much higher.
Given the negative coverage that the banking industry has had in recent years I hope you will listen to the concerns raised by residents on this issue.
Nothing could better demonstrate that the banking industry has changed and is responding to people's concerns, than you changing your minds and keeping this important service in Earl Shilton open.
Please reconsider your plans and keep the NatWest bank open.I will be sending a copy of the petition to you in the near future
With best wishes
Cllr Michael Mullaney
