Bank Levy welcomed

A leading local Liberal Democrat has welcomed a rise of £800 million in the levy on banks

.

The government is raising the bank levy this year to £2.5billion. The permanent levy on the banks, introduced by the Coalition Government in January, will be increased from 1st March, raising an additional £800 million this year.

 

Michael Mullaney Liberal Democrat parliamentary spokesman for Hinckley and Bosworth said "I am delighted that the banks are being made to pay their fair share.

 

"The banks played a big part in getting our country into its economic troubles. It's only right they should pay to help us get out of the mess."
