Big response to campaign to give more priority to Mental health
Hinckley and Bosworth Lib Dems took to the streets to promote the cause of better mental health treatment.
Cllr Michael Mullaney was joined by other local Lib Dem colleagues manning a market stall on Hinckley's Castle Street urging people to sign a petition in support of the cause.
"One in four of us will experience mental health problems at some time in our lives and yet only £1 in every £9 of NHS spending is on specialist mental health services," said Michael Mullaney.
"Mental health has been neglected by consecutive governments but Lib Dems are changing that. We have written into law equality for mental health with physical health and we are introducing the first ever waiting time standards for mental health.
"Many local residents were interested in the campaign and signed up in support of the mental health action plan for improving mental health care."
The mental health action plan is;
1. Crisis Care Concordat: Making sure no one experiencing mental health crisis is ever turned away from services.
2. Choice in Mental Health: Giving people the same choice for
their mental healthcare as they do for their physical health.
3. Liaison and Diversion: Committed £25m for a scheme that
identifies health issues of offenders when they enter the
criminal justice system.
4. Restraint: Investing £1.2m in staff training in order to reduce
harmful restrictive practices.
5. IAPT: Investing over £400m to give thousands of people
access to evidence-based psychological therapies.
6. Children's Mental Health: Investing £54m in order to improve
access to mental health care for children.
7. Time to Change: Funding the Time to Change campaign,
which challenges mental health stigma and discrimination.
8. Tackling Mental Health's biggest killer: £150m investment
to radically reform the treatment of children and young people
with eating disorders.
