Big response to petition against compost site plans
A petition opposing plans for a compost site has been signed by several hundred people living in the Fenny Drayton and Higham on the Hill area.
The petition has now been submitted to Leicestershire County Council whose Development Control Committee will make the decision on the compost site on Thursday 17th November.
The plan is to put a composting site between Fenny Drayton and Higham on the Hill. The petition was organised by Liberal Democrat Councillors Michael Mullaney and Bill Crooks.
Cllr Michael Mullaney, the Lib Dems parliamentary spokesman for Hinckley and Bosworth said "A big thank you to the many people who signed the petition. It is clear there is huge opposition to the compost site in Fenny Drayton, Higham on the Hill and other local villages. I hope the County Council's Committee will listen to local people's concerns and reject the compost site plans."
Cllr Bill Crooks, Lib Dem Rural Affairs spokesman said "Many local people are concerned that the compost site would put extra lorries on overstretched local roads, and that there could be noxious smells and possible health hazards caused by the site".
