Bring empty shops into use- Hinckley and Bosworth Liberal Democrats

4 May 2009

A leading local Liberal Democrat Councillor has welcomed a new scheme to bring empty shops back into use.

Cllr Stuart Bray, spokesman for Town Centres, is backing the plans which could see empty shops turned into community facilities, such as advice centres.

Cllr Bray said "As the economic crisis gets worse more and more local shops are closing.

"Plans recently announced by the Communities Secretary Hazel Blears, would give local councils more power to turn empty shops into community facilities. I welcome these plans and I have asked council officers here in Hinckley and Bosworth to have a look at the proposals to see if we can put them into action here.

"Turning empty shops from eyesores into community resources."
