Pressure from local people and the Liberal Democrats has saved threatened local bus services

A group of local bus services that were at threat of being axed have been reprieved.

The services at risk included the numbers 71, 75, 76, 81 and 82 buses that
serve Hinckley, Burbage, Barwell and Earl Shilton.

A dispute between the Conservative county council and bus companies led the bus companies to threaten to withdraw the services in April.

A massive campaign, launched by the local Pensioners Action Group and Liberal Democrat councillors to save the bus services raised thousands of signatures.

Cllr Stuart Bray Liberal Democrat leader of Hinckley and Bosworth council said "Thanks to the thousands of people who signed the petitions to save the bus services. It has really made a difference and shows that people power can work."

Lib Dem Cllr David Bill added "
This is good news. However there is now a need for us to remain vigilant, to ensure that the best use is made of the buses and that means are found to ensure that the interests of all bus users are fully taken into account in the years to come and that we never have to face this situation again."
