A Hinckley Councillor is calling for the restoration of the twice-hourly rail service connecting Hinckley to Birmingham and Hinckley to Leicester.

Hinckley Councillor and Lib Dem Parliamentary Spokesman for Bosworth Michael Mullaney is putting a motion forward calling for the improved rail service to the Borough Council meeting being held on the 20th of February.

Cllr Michael Mullaney said "There is a demand from many local commuters to bring back the twice hourly train services through Hinckley.

"The Hinckley urban area, including Burbage, Barwell and Earl Shilton is one of the largest in the region yet has a very limited train service.

"I carried out a survey of local residents recently and one of the regular transport issues raised was the need for a more regular rail service through the town.

"With Hinckley a growing town there will be more demand for a regular rail service.

"I hope the Borough Council will support my call for a more regular train service through our area and I hope that Cross Country Trains and the Secretary of State will listen to these calls."
