A campaign has been launched to save the threatened Co-Operative department store in Hinckley.

The Store on Castle Street, Hinckley is one of six department stores that the Heart of England Co-Operative are proposing to close.

Hinckley County Councillor Michael Mullaney, and Lib Dem colleagues have launched a petition calling on the Co-Operative to change its mind and keep the store open.

People can sign the petition at www.bosworthlibdems.org.uk

Michael Mullaney said "Many people have people in contact with myself and colleagues unhappy about the Co-Ops plans to close the store.

"The Co-Op department store in Hinckley is a well used popular store in town.

"The Co-Operative movement say that unlike other major businesses they value the community above profit. I hope they will follow that principle listen to local residents, change their minds and keep the store open.

"I would urge all residents who want to keep the Co-OP to sign the petition to visit www.bosworthlibdems.org.uk or call 01455 632445 for a paper copy."
