Local campaigners are furious after Leicestershire's fire Authority voted to cut 8 firefighters from Hinckley.

Michael Mullaney Liberal Democrat parliamentary spokesman for Hinckley and Bosworth said "Leicestershire Fire Authority have ignored the public of Hinckley. Over 5,000 people signed petitions opposing the cuts.

"Hinckley is a growing area, the government want to impose thousands more houses on our area, if anything we should be having an increase in our Fire Service not a cut back.

"Many people living in and around Hinckley will be angry at this decision which cuts back our fire cover."

An amendment by Liberal Democrat County Councillor Michael Wyatt to stop the cuts in Hinckley was voted down by the Fire Authority.
