Campaigners launch effort to say village bank

29 May 2012

Two Hinckley and Bosworth Liberal Democrat councillors are campaigning to save a village bank that is threatened with closure.

The Santander bank in Newbold Verdon is the only bank that serves the village, and the company are considering closing the branch.

Liberal Democrat parliamentary spokesman for Bosworth Cllr Michael Mullaney has written to the bank asking them to rethink the plans.

Cllr Mullaney said "For Santander to close the bank would mean the loss of a vital service for people in Newbold Verdon, particularly as the village has suffered cutbacks to its bus service recently. Newbold Verdon is a fairly large village of over 3000 people and I urge the bank to think again about closing the branch."

Cllr David Gould said "We have launched a petition to keep the bank in Newbold Verdon and I would urge all local residents to sign it and show Santander their support for keeping this vital facility in the village."
