Campaigners welcome mast victory

30 Mar 2011

Liberal Democrat councillors and campaigners are delighted that plans to build four phone masts in Hinckley and Burbage have been rejected.

The Council's Planning Committee voted to reject plans by O2/Vodaphone to build phone masts on Stoke Road and Queens Road in Hinckley and Rugby Road and The Three Pots in Burbage.

Cllr Stuart Bray, whose Liberal Democrat party collected over 1,600 signatures in Hinckley and Burbage against the Phone Mast plans, welcomed the news. Cllr Bray siad "People understand there is a need for phone masts. These masts, though, were going to be put in totally unsuitable places, built up residential areas.

"A big thank you to everyone who signed the petitions, or wrote in opposing the phone mast plans, it really made a difference.

"The campaign goes on though. Plans are still being considered for phone masts on Barwell Lane, Hinckley and Hinckley Road in Burbage, both are equally unsuitable sites and I hope they are too rejected when they come to the council's Planning Committee."
