Cllrs Martin Cartwright and Ted Hollick join the Lib Dems
Today, Groby Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Councillor and Parish Councillor Martin Cartwright, along with Groby Parish Councillor Colleague Ted Hollick left the Conservative Party and joined the ruling Liberal Democrat group, at Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council.
Both Councillors, with proven credentials and established track records in tirelessly serving their local Community, will be presenting themselves as Liberal Democrat candidates in the forthcoming Local Elections in Groby.
Cllr Cartwright said: "There comes a time when an ordinary working bloke has to stand up and be counted. I'll be better placed to continue my fight to preserve and improve our village from within the ruling group on the Council.
I have come to the conclusion that I will be best able to serve the people of Groby by standing for the Liberal Democrats. I look forward to working with the Lib Dems for the benefit of all the residents of Groby".
I will be in a better position to actually get things done for Groby - rather than grandstanding from the sidelines as some like to do.
Ted Hollick added "The Conservatives loss will be a big gain for the Lib Dems. Groby will have a far more effective voice as the result. As most Groby people know I have lived in the village for 38 years. Produced a community newspaper for 16 of those years and loyally served on the Parish Council for the last 12 years. I am more than happy to join with Martin to truly continue to work for the benefit of all Groby's residents."
Lib Dem Council Leader Stuart Bray said, "Councillor Cartwright has proven talents, and a reputation of hard work for Groby and the Borough as a whole. My colleagues and I are delighted to welcome Martin to the Liberal Democrats. Martin Cartwright holds one of the best attendance records at HBBC across his term of office, and is a great team player demanding respect of friends and opponents alike.
"Councillor Ted Hollick has given twelve years service to Groby Parish Council and will bring much knowledge, insight and experience to the Borough Council, assisting our comprehension and understanding of how and what matters to the residents of Groby.
"Such high calibre and proven hard working Councillors for Groby will be an asset to our group."
Martin Cartwright becomes the 20th Liberal Democrat Councillor on the Borough Council. The Conservatives are left with 12, (although one Conservative refuses to take their whip) and Labour has two.
Under the Lib Dem Leadership, the Borough Council has become the best performing Council in Leicestershire.
