Compost site threat returns

7 Jul 2011

A planning application for a compost site between Fenny Drayton and Higham on the Hill has been submitted to Leicestershire County Council.

Leicestershire County Council's planning committee rejected plans for a compost site there in 2009. An appeal by the applicant was also turned down in 2010.

Cllr Michael Mullaney, Liberal Democrat parliamentary spokesman for Hinckley and Bosworth said, "Local residents are angry that after these plans have been turned down twice another attempt is being made to put a compost site near Fenny Drayton.

"The compost site would put extra lorries on overstretched roads, and there are still concerns about the smells and health hazards that could be caused by the site.

"We have launched a petition against the compost site. Anyone wishing to sign it can do so at http://campaigns.libdems.org.uk/fennydraytoncompostsite
