Council gives unanimous backing to more Hinckley trains campaign

A proposal to increase the number of trains stopping at Hinckley received unanimous backing at the recent Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council meeting.

Hinckley Councillor Michael Mullaney proposed a motion calling on Cross Country trains to restore the twice hourly rail services from Hinckley station.

The Council's Chief Executive Steve Atkinson has written to the Secretary of State for Transport and Cross Country trains asking for the services to be restored.

Michael Mullaney said "The Hinckley urban area, including Burbage, Barwell and Earl Shilton is one of the biggest in the region and is growing and local commuters deserve a more regular rail service.

"I hope that Cross Country will listen to people's views and restore the twice hourly rail service between Hinckley and Birmingham and Hinckley and Leicester."

Councillor David Gould added "The wider Hinckley area is experiencing unprecedented levels of economic growth. Improving rail connections will ensure that this prosperity continues for years to come."
