Councillor raises need for fair funding for Leicestershire Fire service with government minister

A local Councillor has raised with the government minister responsible for Fire services the need for fair funding for Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service.

Councillor Michael Mullaney, Liberal Democrat group leader on the Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Authority raised the issue at an online meeting with the Fire Minister Lord Greenhalgh.

Michael Mullaney said "Whilst our Fire service does a tremendous job with the financial resources it has it's a concern for many people that our fire service in Leicestershire, like many other services in the county, gets a well below average level of financial support from the government.

"I hope the government will look again at fairer funding for Fire Authorities like Leicestershire to ensure that our Fire Service has the maximum resources it needs to keep people in our area safe".

The central government revenue support grant for the Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service was £11.8million in 2013/14, by 2021/22 it is estimated that it will have fallen by almost two thirds to just £4.3million
