Councillor to do sponsored Abseil for Homeless Group
A Hinckley Councillor is to do a sponsored abseil on behalf of the Town's Homelessness Group.
The Hinckley Homeless Group provides accommodation at Lawrence House for young adults between 16 and 25 who are homeless.
The group has been hit by Leicestershire County Council's axing of the funding it receives for housing homeless young people over 18 and now needs to raise £15,000 to keep Lawrence House going over the next year.
Hinckley County Councillor Michael Mullaney has responded by making the charity the recipient of a sponsored abseil he will be doing from the Hinckley St Mary's Church Tower on Saturday November 7th. Half the proceeds of the Abseil go to the Hinckley St Mary's Church Tower fund and the other half go to the charity of the participants choice.
Cllr Michael Mullaney said "Hinckley Homeless Group do a vital job locally supporting young people who end up homeless in our area. Homelessness can affect people anywhere in the country and we are fortunate to have this organisation in Hinckley to help young adults when they are in need of support.
"Hopefully the generosity of other local people who are donating to the group will help raise the funding that the Hinckley Homeless Group need to keep Lawrence House open."
