COUNCILLORS have celebrated Museum Week and are calling on Leicestershire County Council to reverse its decision to close one in the County.
Museum Week 2015, the second year it's happened, is an international event which provides an opportunity for Museums and cultural organisations all over the World to share and discuss their special passions with the public using the social media platform Twitter.
Museum visitors were also invited to contribute to the conversation and share their memories, experiences and creations.
Councillor Michael Mullaney (Hinckley Trinity), the Lib Dem Parliamentary Spokesman for Bosworth, and Councillor Mathew Hulbert (Lib Dem, Barwell), Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council's Children and Young People's Champion, visited Snibston Discovery Museum to mark the important occasion.
Councillor Mullaney says, "Museum Week's been an opportunity to be proud of the excellent Museums we have locally.
I'm glad to be able to serve on the Board of the fantastic Hinckley Museum, which is going from strength to strength and recently had its roof re-thatched.
"Unfortunately the excellent Snibston Discovery Museum is threatened with closure by the Conservative leadership at Leicestershire County Council.
"We can only hope, even at this late stage, they work with the excellent Friends of Snibston group to keep it open."
Councillor Hulbert says, "It's important for all age groups that our Museums are kept open and accessible but especially for our children and young people.
"Museums are where history comes alive and where young minds can be expanded and new ideas formed.
" I call on the Tories at County Hall to withdraw their wrong-headed decision to close it.
The community have called on them to do so...and they must listen!"
