Councillors launch campaign to save Hinckley Sorting Office
Hinckley and Bosworth's Liberal Democrat councillors have launched a campaign to save the Royal Mail sorting office in Hinckley.
Cllr David Bill (Lib Dem Hinckley Clarendon) has submitted a motion to the Hinckley and Bosworth council meeting taking place on the 25th October urging Royal Mail to change its mind.
David Bill said "We are dismayed that the Royal Mail is intending to close its sorting office in Hinckley in 2013.
"We have concerns about the future of the staff and are concerned about the effect this will have on the delivery of vital postal services to this area and in particular the ability of people to collect undelivered items of mail".
Cllr Michael Mullaney (Lib Dem Hinckley Trinity) added "Closing this key facility in Hinckley could have a negative impact on the level of service local people receive and we urge Royal Mail to reconsider their decision."

Hinckley Sorting Office - Proposed Closure
"This Council, having due regard to the standing of the Post Office and Royal Mail, views with dismay the news that it is the intention of the Royal Mail to close the sorting office in Hinckley in 2013.
This Council notes that the Royal Mail management and the unions have already expressed concern about the future of the staff and we share those concerns. We are just as concerned about the effect this will have on the delivery of vital postal services to this area and in particular the ability of people to collect undelivered items of mail.
We believe that if this move is carried out it will have an adverse effect on all customers of the Royal Mail both as individuals and as public or commercial concerns.
We object, therefore, in the strongest possible terms to this proposal and seek urgent discussions with the relevant decision-makers within the organisation to secure other viable alternatives."
