Councillors launch petition to keep bus service

2 Jul 2012

Hinckley and Bosworth Liberal Democrat councillors have launched a petition to keep a threatened bus service.

The number 7 bus serves a lot of villages in the west of Hinckley and Bosworth including; Witherley, Fenny Drayton, Sheepy Magna and Congerstone.

Conservative run Leicestershire County Council are consulting on removing the number 7 bus.

Liberal Democrat parliamentary spokesman for Bosworth, Cllr Michael Mullaney, said; "Many people have contacted me to ask for the bus service to be kept. I would urge everyone who wants to keep the bus service to sign the petition and show the County Council how much support there is for this service."

Cllr Bill Crooks, Lib Dem Rural Affairs spokesman, said; "This bus service is crucial for these villages, many of whom do not have their own shops and other services. Conservative run Leicestershire County Council has got £110 million in the bank, a tiny fraction of that money could be released to keep this vital bus service serving all these villages."
