Councillors launch petition to save threatened village bus services
Local councillors have launched a petition to save threatened local bus services.
Arriva buses have announced plans that will see the 153 bus service from Market Bosworth to Leicester cease stopping in the villages of Barton-in-the-Beans, Carlton and Nailstone from April 17th. If the cuts a take place it will mean no bus services will serve Barton-in-the-Beans or Carlton.
Lib Dem Councillor for Nailstone Bill Crooks has helped launch the petition he said "This service is the only bus service that connects Nailstone to Leicester. Not everybody in rural areas drives so stopping this service will contribute to people in rural areas like Nailstone feeling isolated."
Leader of Leicestershire Liberal Democrat Councillors Michael Mullaney said "This is part of a wider picture of bus services being cut across Leicestershire and the rest of the country.
"At a time when fuel prices are rocketing and at a time when we are trying to protect the environment we should be making it easier for people to get to places by bus not removing services."
Cllr Joyce Crooks said "I would urge all concerned residents to sign the petition to Arriva asking them to think again about these plans."
