County Council election results point to close fight in Bosworth at general election

The County Council elections have set the scene for a close two horse race in Hinckley and Bosworth at the general election according to local Liberal Democrats.

Hinckley and Bosworth elected 5 Conservatives, 4 Lib Dems and no Labour County Councillors. In the Bosworth constituency it's even closer. Of the 8 County Council seats that are entirely in Bosworth constituency the Lib Dems and Tories won 4 seats each.

Amongst the successful Lib Dems was their parliamentary candidate Michael Mullaney who won Hinckley De Montfort. Michael said "On paper De Montfort was a Conservative Lib Dem marginal, the fact we've won it comfortably shows we can really challenge David Tredinnick's grip on the parliamentary seat at the general election.

"At the last two general elections I came a solid second to David Tredinnick. These County Council election results show that we are set for another two horse race between the Lib Dems and the Tories. If people want a new MP who lives locally, who campaigns on the important issues like protecting our NHS and education services, then people can get that change by voting Lib Dem in June"

Amongst the Lib Dems other successes in the County elections was a Lib Dem win in Hinckley St Marys where the Conservative leader of Hinckley and Bosworth Council lost by over 300 votes to the Lib Dem leader of the opposition Stuart Bray. In the rural areas Lib Dem Bill Crooks gained Mallory from the Conservatives. Whilst David Bill secured a huge majority in Hinckley as he was elected a County Councillor for the ninth time in a row.
