Euro elections show the Liberal Democrats are the challengers in Bosworth at the next general election

9 Jun 2009

For the first time since 1987 the Liberal Democrats have finished ahead of Labour in a parliamentary election in Bosworth.

In the European elections the Liberal Democrats received 5,759 votes in Hinckley and Bosworth more than double Labour's vote which was just 2,742.

Michael Mullaney, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesman for Bosworth said "The results of the European elections show that Labour is out of the race in Hinckley and Bosworth.

"For many years local elections in Hinckley and Bosworth have been a two-horse race between the Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives. Now we have shown that parliamentary elections are a contest between the Lib Dems and the Conservatives as well."
