GOVERNMENT FAILS TO LISTEN ON POST OFFICES, SAY LIB DEMS
Liberal Democrats in Hinckley & Bosworth have hit out at the government's failure to listen to the concerns of people over post office closures. The Government announced that they will continue with their plan to close at least 2,500 post offices across the country including the post offices in Bagworth and Higham-on-the-Hill.
Hinckley & Bosworth Liberal Democrats have been campaigning against post office closures and are today stepping up the fight against the Government's plans. Chair of Bosworth Lib Dems & Deputy Leader of the Council, Cllr Stuart Bray, has tabled a motion to December's Council meeting deploring the decision to close these two post offices in the Borough.
Cllr Stuart Bray (Hinckley Castle) said, "It is outrageous that the Government have ignored the concerns of local people and are continuing with their plan to close at least 2,500 post offices. That means we could lose two more post offices here locally.
"Along with many local people, we are campaigning against the Government's post office closure plans and will now be stepping up the fight once again.
"If, instead of initiating a further round of cuts, the Government were to adopt Liberal Democrats plans for the Post Office then they would be able to invest an additional £2 billion in the network and safeguard the future of local post offices for years to come.
"The Conservatives have nothing to offer our post offices. They closed over 3,000 Post Offices when they were in power. Only the Liberal Democrats have a fully-funded plan to save the post office."

"This Council deplores the recent announcement by the Post Office that it intends to close the sub post offices at Higham-on-the-Hill and Bagworth. This follows the closure of all the other sub post offices which has so obviously been to the detriment of local communities and the intended displacement of the main Station Road post office and sorting facilities which is clearly going to cause problems for Station Road traders.
It instructs the Chief Executive to make representations as appropriate in the strongest terms."
