Gurkha victory welcomed

Hinckley and Bosworth Liberal Democrats have welcomed the victory for the Gurkhas in yesterday's House of Commons vote. By 267 to 246 MPs supported a Liberal Democrat motion to give Gurkha soldiers equal rights of residence in the UK .

Michael Mullaney Liberal Democrat parliamentary spokesman for Bosworth said "This is a historic victory for the Gurkhas who have served our country so bravely.

"In September last year Hinckley and Bosworth Liberal Democrats put forward a similar motion in support of the Gurkhas and gained the unanimous support of councillors for the rights of Gurkhas to settle in this country.

"The Government must listen to Parliament and scrap these shameful rules immediately and grant justice without conditions to all retired Gurkhas.

"People who are willing to risk their lives for our country, should be allowed to live in our country."
