The Borough Council passed a motion proposed by Lib Dem parliamentary spokesman Cllr Michael Mullaney which condemned government cuts in real terms to police spending and called for more officers on local streets.

Proposing the motion Michael Mullaney said "Many people I speak to are very concerned about the lack of police on local streets.

"Sadly since 2015 there has been a 6.1% real term cuts in police funding in Leicestershire. This is putting a huge strain on our local police force.

"Speaking to local residents in Hinckley and surrounding villages there is a real concern about the lack of police on the streets. People are concerned about a rise in crime, particularly thefts in rural as well as urban areas.

"It's vital we get more police on the streets, this is something myself and Lib Dem councillors in Hinckley and Bosworth will continue to campaign for."

Leicestershire Police funding

Council deplores the fact that since 2015 Leicestershire police has suffered 6.1% of cutbacks by this Conservative government.

Many residents in the borough, particularly in the rural areas are concerned about rising levels of theft and other crimes and the lack of police available to deal with it.

Hard pressed Residents had to pay a large increase in Council Tax for the police this year to make up for reduction in government support.
