Following the announcement of government funding for local bus services the leader of the opposition on Leicestershire County Council has called for the funding to be used to bring back former bus services.

At the latest Leicestershire County Council meeting Liberal Democrat Councillor Michael Mullaney called for the restoration of the number 159 Hinckley to Coalville service that served many local villages including Barlestone, Nailstone, Market Bosworth, Stapleton, Cadeby and Newbold Verdon. Michael also called for the return of the number 1 and 2 services that served Barwell, Earl Shilton and many parts of Hinckley.

Michael said “The numbers 1,2 and 159 bus services are ones I still have people contacting me about urging the bus services be returned. I call on the County Council to use funds for bus services to bring back these important local services. Many of the services were used by elderly and disabled people and also by people who used them to get to work.”
