A Hinckley councillor took part in a national panel discussion on the need to champion issues affecting Hinckley and the rest of the Midlands.

Hinckley Liberal Democrat Councillor Michael Mullaney appeared on the panel discussion at national Liberal Democrat conference.

The panel also featured North Shropshire MP Helen Morgan and deputy leader of Oadby and Wigston Borough Council Samia Haq.

Michael Mullaney said "I'm delighted that the issues affecting people here in Hinckley and Bosworth and the rest of the Midlands were featured at a national conference.

"We often hear about issues affecting the north and the south of the country but we here in the Midlands are often forgotten.

"People see the affects of this in their everyday lives. We don't have the infrastructure here we need. Funding for transport infrastructure, education, health, the police, Fire service are all below average here in the Midlands.

"People here in Hinckley and Bosworth and the rest of the Midlands deserve the same level of services that people in the rest of Britain receive.

"Leicestershire continues to be the worst funded County Council in the country which people see in their everyday lives with issues like the state of local roads.

"It was good to have Helen Morgan the recently elected Lib Dem MP for North Shropshire on the panel with me. Now we have a Lib Dem MP in the Midlands it strengthens our campaign to get a fair deal for people in the Midlands."

The event was jointly hosted by the Local Government Association Lib Dem group, the Association of Liberal Democrat Councillors and Lib Dems for the Heart of England a pressure group that champions the cause of people in the Midlands which is Chaired by Michael Mullaney.
