Hinckley Councillor raises need to reform planning laws at National party conference
Hinckley Lib Dem County Councillor Michael Mullaney spoke at this week's Lib Dem national conference on the need to reform the planning laws.
In a debate at the conference Michael raised the issue of the Big Pit nature feature in Hinckley, Michael Mullaney said "Campaigning by councillors and local residents saw plans to build on the Big Pit repeatedly turned down by local Councillors. However, a Government Inspector overrode local decisions and permitted building on the site.
"We need reforms to the planning laws to give local communities more say over planning decisions in their area.
It's totally wrong that developments, like the crazy plans to build on the Big Pit water feature in Hinckley, are turned down by local councillors but then pushed through by government inspectors from outside the area. This needs to change and the change has to happen to the planning laws made at Westminster to give local communities more say over what happens in their area."
