Hinckley Councillor welcomes election of new leader
Liberal Democrats in Hinckley have welcomed the election of Ed Davey as new leader of the party.
Hinckley County Councillor Michael Mullaney said "I'm delighted that Ed Davey has been elected leader of the Liberal Democrats.
"I've been a strong supporter of Ed who has the vision to take the Lib Dems and Britain forward. He has made supporting carers a top priority. Here in Hinckley and the rest of Leicestershire there are 1,000s of carers who provide vital support to family and friends, often unpaid. I'm proud we have a leader who prioritises people who are some of the unsung hero's of our communities.
"Ed's proposals for a £150 billion Green economic recovery plan, which will protect the climate and deliver jobs post COVID-19 is just what the country needs.
"As acting Leader Ed has already forced Boris Johnson to agree to deliver a full public inquiry into the lessons to be learned from the coronavirus epidemic. He also helped pressure the government into extending the furlough scheme that helps thousands of people here in Hinckley.
"I'm looking forward to Ed as leader helping promote Lib Dem policies of supporting carers, protecting jobs and the environment and delivering quality public services that will help people across Hinckley and the rest of Britain".
