Lib Dems want our area to get a fair deal

Reacting to the recent news from the new coalition Government that Regionally imposed Housing targets will be scrapped, the Lib Dem Leader of Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, Stuart Bray said:

"I am delighted that the new Government will be scrapping housing targets that were imposed on our area by the previous Labour Government. Many local residents were angry that nearly 12,000 new houses and around 40 new travellers pitches were to be imposed on our area.

"I wrote to the then Secretary of State, Hazel Blears, asking for her think again and come and meet with myself and the local community to see the anger felt on the plans.

"I have now asked Council Officers to prepare a report for the next Council meeting (29th June) to delay the site allocations document for a period of 18 months so we can see what guidelines the new Government will lay down.

"I said two years ago, we were being asked to take more than our fair share of new houses and travellers pitches I hope the new regulations will mean a reduction in the numbers of both housing and travellers pitches for our area."
