Improvements to Hinckley Post Offices Welcomed

11 Feb 2014

News that several Post Offices in Hinckley are to be improved has received a warm welcome from the town's Liberal Democrat Councillors.

The Post Office has announced that the Post Offices at 300 Coventry Road and 3-5 Derby Road, Hinckley are to be turned into one of their new "Main style" branches.

This means that customers will benefit from longer opening hours at the Post Offices and a newly refurbished open plan environment. The Post offices will continue offering all the services they have in the past with Derby Road Post Office also benefiting from being able to sell Car Tax.

Hinckley County Councillor and Lib Dem Parliamentary spokesman Michael Mullaney said "This is welcome news for people in Hinckley.

"When Lib Dems came into government one of their top priorities was to protect what remained of our Post Office network. Thousands of Post Offices had been closed under Labour and Conservative governments. This included branches like the ones on Ashby Road, Clifton Way and Tudor Road in Hinckley.

"These planned improvements to the Coventry Road and Derby Road Post Offices are part of a scheme to improve 6,000 Post Office branches, nearly half the network, across the country. It is good to see our post offices not only surviving but being given the improvements they need to be thriving."

County Councillor David Bill added "These improvements to the two branches are good news I will also be taking this opportunity to contact the Post Office to ask them to consider opening branches previously closed such as Clifton Way in Hinckley."

The branches on Coventry Road and Derby Road will be closed for improvements on March 13th, and the new improved Coventry Road branch will re-open on the 22nd March at 1pm, and the Derby Road branch will re-open on 25th March at 1pm
