Leading local Labour Councillor joins Lib Dems
Barwell Parish Councillor Richard Neale-Gardner has left Labour and joined the Liberal Democrats.
Cllr Neale-Garnder has left Labour because he believes they are out of touch with the needs of ordinary people and they simply don't listen. He believes the Lib Dems offer the best deal for local people.
Cllr Neale-Gardner said "I have joined the Liberal Democrats because I think they have done a really good job locally, their Councillors work hard all year round keeping in touch with local people.Since the Liberal Democrats took control of the council they have been working hard to improve things locally.
"Local people I represent in Barwell are fed up with Gordon Brown and the Labour government. They believe the Labour government is arrogant and out of touch and don't listen. Their policies, like scrapping the 10p tax rate, are really hurting people. With food and fuel bills going up too, many people in Barwell are struggling to make ends meet. Most people I speak to, do not think Labour are delivering for our area.
Chairman of Bosworth Liberal Democrats Cllr Stuart Bray welcomed Richard Neale-Gardner to the party " Richard is a hardworking experienced campaigner. As well as being a Parish Councillor he has recently set up a residents and tenants association in his area and is a serving school governor .
"Many former Labour supporters in Bosworth, like Richard, are supporting the Lib Dems because Labour has let down Britain. This defection is another sign of the disintegration of Labour support in our area. Labour are a distant third on Hinckley and Bosworth Council with just two councillors. It is clear that in Hinckley and Bosworth the choice is between the Liberal Democrats or the Conservatives."
